Dear friends, we’re honored to present you Tigran Hamasyan’s first sheet music edition, the long-awaited, containing the Etude No.1, “Markos and Markos” and "Lilac"—three pieces for solo piano. These three stay in Tigran’s repertoire and are much loved by the listeners and the live audience worldwide ever since the release of their audio-recorded versions.

The music notation in this edition offers not merely the transcriptions of the recorded album versions, but much more, including the elaborated parts which Tigran Hamasyan added after numerous concert performances. Thus we present the pieces in their most updated development.

The edition comes as a .pdf file ready for printing out double-sided. This means that it is arranged as a common printed book, with spreads preserving the order of left (even) and right (odd) pages. It has a front and a back cover, a title page, the credits and themselves the pieces. We did our best to keep the music as easy to read as possible, while, as it often happens with music notation, we also were victims of the convenient & timely page turns, which for us was a priority, and which resulted in condensed engraving on some pages.

All three pieces were transcribed and engraved by Savva Terentyev, and edited together with Tigran Hamasyan himself. The publisher would like to extend his sincere gratitude to Peter Trubinov, who gave advices and offered corrections to music engraving, to Vahram Murdyan who generously donated several illustrations to the project, and to Yuri Kutkov who designed the covers and the title page.

This edition is the fruit of a very meticulous work, and is presented as a part of a bigger edition—the printed score containing 7 pieces, which will be released by the end of Spring.

From now on, this digital edition is being sold in our online shop.

Etude No.1 and “Markos and Markos” were released on Tigran’s second solo record, An Ancient Observer, released by Nonesuch last year. “Lilac” was released by the same label in 2015 on Tigran’s Mockroot album.

I got the book today. Really great done! I like it very very much.
— Ingo Brunk, Germany

(The printed edition is) a magnificent production of a wonderous piece of art by beautiful people. The digital edition looked amazing on iPad and the one song I printed out (on the paper you suggested) was absolutely top quality. Happily looking forward to any future releases.
—Johan De Ryck, Halle, Belgium

I’m happy that piano sheets of this wonderful album by Current 93 are published. The edition is very nice, thank you very much.
— Michael W., Berlin, Germany

The beauty (the printed edition) has finally arrived, many Thanks! And I’ve just printed out the digital edition and it’s just lovely to look at and read. Soft Black Stars is my favourite album! What a great choice to start your company that way—all the best to you and your small team. Thank you so much! Большое спасибо!
— Michael F., Calw, Germany

Thank you very much for your work in putting this together! Both editions look beautiful and it has been a joy to play and listen along with the album!
— Josh Loughrey, Pittsburgh, USA

Thank you so much! The sheets are utterly beautiful!
Soft Black Stars is one of my most beloved albums of all times, and right now I am tempted to print the pages, frame them and put them on the walls all over my house. :) I enjoy playing the songs very much. It is really relaxing and connects me even more to these beautiful songs. So thank you again for the good work!

—Jennifer, Germany

The book received, I started working on it; you worked really great! Thank you for all! Je vous embrasse.
— Julien A., Paris, France

I am totally impressed (with the digital edition)! For me Soft Black Stars was and is my favourite album by Current 93 — they did a lot of brilliant stuff but Soft Black Stars is outstanding both in terms of lyrics and the simplicity and complexity of the music.
I am no musician, I cannot read any notes but I will give the score to my dear mother and will ask her to play them for me!
Thanks for the kind letter and this incredible piece of art
(the printed edition)! While I—of course—have checked the digital version, the printed one surprised me in so many ways—as for different ligatures and the two types of lower case ‘t’! So beautiful!
— Jan Bauer, Braunschweig, Germany

I’m very pleased with the book. I received it in the post last week and I have been playing from it every day since it arrived! It’s a lovely edition, and I’m so grateful that you’ve put in so much time and effort to make it happen.
— Roger Sutherland, Kent, UK

Dear Sir, Dear Lady

Today we put on sale the digital edition of our very first project with Cᴜʀʀᴇɴᴛ 93, which is a complete piano and vocal transcription of their Soft Black Stars album. The transcription offers the most precise musical notation available of how exactly the piano and vocal parts were performed on this album.

This is the ultimate source for one who wishes to follow the original recording, and to go deeper and higher and further to these Stars.

One can study the music through these pages, whose layout is arranged especially for printing out in A4 format. For an even Starrier experience, we suggest obtaining the printed edition, which is designed specifically to use for playing these works on the piano.

A printed edition of Soft Black Stars, to be published in April 2017, will offer piano notation and the lyrics (but not the vocal lines). It will not be a transcription, but rather a compilation of the essential piano parts composed by Michael Cashmore and manifested on paper at our publishing house. It provides a complete overview of which melodies and harmonies each song from Soft Black Stars should be improvised around, “to make your own stars” as David Tibet writes. It was, indeed, in this way that the Soft Black Stars were created during the recording sessions and in concerts. The printed edition will be out in April 2017; pre-orders are now being taken.

Both editions include exclusive introductions written by David Tibet and Michael Cashmore, as well as an editor’s note with explanations and additional information. The editions are bilingual, in the original English and with Russian translations provided. The music is transcribed and the score prepared by Savva Terentyev. Graphic design in collaboration with Maria Muuk.

All purchases should be made in our online shop.
